History & Mission

Permanently protecting wild land since 1964.

Since 1964, George Jury has led the effort to permanently protect miles of wilderness. What began as a small dream to protect 400 acres of wilderness has grown to over 2000 acres today.

Our mission

A place where wildlife can truly find sanctuary.

George Jury is the founder of Greenwood Wildlife Sanctuary. He and his late wife had the dream and mission to conserve the natural state of the land, protecting and encouraging the growth of the wildlife population, and making the land available as an educational resource to qualified persons — to the extent consistent with these conservation goals.

This mission is solely funded by Greenwood Foundation, a private operating foundation committed to protecting the land permanently through conservation easements held by the Little Traverse Conservancy.

We have always wanted Greenwood to be one place where wildlife can truly find sanctuary.
